History

I didn't live in Vermont all my life, but I am here now. I currently live in South Barre, VT. I work for IBM in the manufacturing line, and I am a part time student at Champlain College. I am currently studying for my bachelor's in Software Engineering. At the moment, I live with my family, which consists of my three younger siblings, and my parents. I just recently turned 25, and I have several hobbies and interests, which I hope to share with you on this page.

I was born in New Orleans, LA. I've moved from Beacon, NY to Pleasant Valley, NY to Cabot, VT during my youth. I played for the Cabot Varsity Soccer Team when I was in high school, and I spent most of my free time learning about computers using the school's equipment. I also had the opportunity to go to Russia my junior year, and I had quite the experience in a vastly different country than what I have grown to know. My parents decided that they wanted more kids, so they turned to adoption. My brothers and sister are all adopted from Romania, and I think this is the best thing our family has done. They are just a wonderful bunch of kids, and I am glad to call them my kin. After I left high school, I went to work for IBM, and after being bounced around through their temp program, I finally managed to get a full time job. That's when I decided to hit the books again, and get an education. My siblings are 12 and 13 now, and I have included a picture below.

Music

Everyone has their own preference in music, so I thought I would mention mine. I prefer alternative rock, but I occasionally make short forrays into other mediums. I enjoy the music of Garth Brooks, the celtic sounds of Loreena McKennit or Enya, and the song that became popular because of the movie, "Oh Brother Where Art Thou?", titled "Man of Constant Sorrow." I prefer classical music when coding software, but the current cd playing is disc 1 of The Smashing Pumpkin's Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness two CD set.

Webcomics

I rarely get time to read the newspaper anymore, so I spend most of my time searching CNN.com and Yahoo News to get the latest up to date information. I've also noticed that the comics offered in the local newspaper have become stale and outdated(Dilbert and Foxtrot being the exceptions). However, there is a huge amount of webcomics on the Internet that really click with a large amount of users on the web. I manage to read quite a few, and I have included a list of my favorites, in order. I hope you enjoy the humor they provide.

Seamus's Webcomic Ratings:

  1. Penny Arcade - These guys are the number one source for opinions on anything realted to gaming.
  2. RPG World - Any fan on the Final Fantasy Series of Games by Squaresoft will appreciate the humor this comic offers.
  3. Ctrl+Alt+Del - A humorous comic about computer/console gaming, and other gaming issues.
  4. Neko the Kitty - A funny strip about a cat with issues.
  5. WTF? - A strip about the world of Everquest, with a continuing story.
  6. /GU - Another Everquest comic, but a one panel quick joke strip much like "The Far Side" by Gary Larson.
  7. Angst Technology - A comic about a software company's zany employees.
  8. Force Monkeys - A comic hosted by Gamespy that is occasionally humorous.
  9. PVP - A comic about the workers at a game magazine company. The comics were funny, but lately they have been extremely stale

Snowboarding

Snowboarding is a great sport, especially with all the mountains in Vermont. I started out skiing a few years ago, but my brothers and sister wanted me to switch over to snowboarding this year, and I am glad I did it. I no longer have to deal with the vice grip of the ski boots, or ski poles. Here are a few places to go or buy equipment.(Image of Shaun White from Snowboarding.com)

Soccer

I've always enjoyed playing soccer since I started in Middle School. I managed to play for my high school team for four years. After high school, one of the major missing pieces for me was not being able to play anymore. Luckily, my employer has a large enough work force to sponser an entire intramural league. I play for one of the teams, and we have a 12 game season including the playoffs over the summer. I am currently playing Goal Keeper, which is a thankless job in this league.

Video Games

Again, many people feel I have way to many hobbies. Here are a list of video games I enjoy when it is way to cold to play soccer, and I am not snowboarding on the mountains in Vermont. My interests vary, and I generally play action with the occasional RPG. I was at one point a huge fan of the Final Fantasy series, but their attempt to distribute game after game within months kind of starts to lack quality. My friends and I also get together to hook our computers up and have a LAN party with a variety of games when we have the time.

RPGs and Miniature Gaming

The RPG world has grown over the last three years, and I have been running into gamers of all types everywhere. I started playing AD&D, but then moved on to different gaming systems including Shadowrun and Warhammer. I also picked up the side hobby of painting minatures, and managed to do a decent job on some of them.

Tech

I also tend to dabble with technology, and there are a lot of great sites out there filled with information. I spent a good deal of my time working, upgrading, or fixing computers. In fact, most of the machines at IBM are subpar and require maintenance beyond just simple rebooting. I finally managed to teach people to not reboot the computer every time a program freezes, and instead hard close the offending program. I eventually want to build a computer when I can find the time. I did managed to compile a list of great sites I use for news, reviews, and buying hardware.
